“Christianity was from the beginning, essentially and fundamentally, life's nausea and disgust with life, merely concealed behind, masked by, dressed up as, faith in "another" or "better" life.” FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

HEY This is 7Inspirations and my name is Paul LeCrone. In this newsletter you’ll find 7 things that I thought were interesting, thought provoking, or delicious. Why 7? because 7 8 9.

Music/video

The Story of Radiohead's Best Song

Listeners of The Penguin Latte Podcast know how much I love Radiohead.

This 12 minute video essay wonderfully describes the beauty of the most haunting track that Thom Yorke and crew ever recorded.

Book

Carl Jung - Aion

I’m still reading it. Here’s the biggest takeaways I’ve got so far:

The symbol of Christ, or the idea of Christ, was inevitable. Whether you like it or not, Christianity was going to happen. And not because people were stupid, but because people needed something as necessary as oxygen.

The idea of Christ had been (and these are Jung’s words now), or the ideas underlying the idea of Christ had been lurking in the unconscious long before biblical times. The alchemical symbol of the fish/Christ represents Christ as the archetype of the self fished out of the sea (which always appears in dreams and mythology as water/sea/ocean/lake).

Christ is a symbol of the self, and this symbol has a magnetic attraction which attracts those behaviors locked within us considered divine. Religious ideas such as this, if taken away (see: Marxist utopias), remove mankind from the potential to transcend their limitations. Or, at the very least, replace very real and very ancient paths to spiritual hygiene with something hollow, and thus something void of any meaning.

Do I agree Jung’s central ideas?

Yes. Of course. I’d be an idiot not to.

Video

Henry's Kitchen- Spaghetti and Meat Balls

These are the greatest cooking tutorials of all time.

Quote

‘Cooking is hard, and it’s never fun. And that’s why they call it cooking’
Henry Philips

Podcast (+ another quote)

There’s always another dimension to growth. The score, the dollars in our bank account, a lot of that takes care of itself if we can bring that presence to everything we do.
